Non-curfew areas: Concession for SLTB, private buses

Permission has been given to SLTB and private buses and trains to carry passengers according to the available number of seats in districts where the curfew has been relaxed from today.

This decision was taken during a meeting convened by Passenger Transport Management Minster Mahinda Amaraweera with Ministry officials and other relevant stakeholders in the transport sector yesterday.

Attention has been paid to regularise the train and bus services for the benefit of employees of the state and public sector organizations and factories traveling daily in areas where the curfew has been relaxed by strictly adhering to the Health and safety regulations imposed by the heath authorities.

Accordingly, Minister Amaraweera urged all private bus associations to take steps to recommence bus service in curfew relaxed areas from today.

Even though, permission has been given to carry passengers to the number of seats available in buses and trains in all other districts except Colombo and Gampaha  districts, priority will be given to the employees of the state and public sector organizations and factories to travel.

People are expected to follow the Health and safety regulations such as wearing masks, using sanitizers and getting on the buses from back door and getting down from front door. Hand-washing facilities are available in all the bus stops.

“People urged not to use public transport unless their journey is essential in order to prevent the spread of COVID -19," the Minister said.

The Minister further said that ticket counters in railway stations will be opened and train tickets as well as train seasons tickets will be issued from today. However, it is compulsory to submit respective office IDs to the ticket counters when purchasing tickets.
