Severe lightning warning

The Natural Hazards Early Warning Center has issued a warning of sever lightening and heavy rain to several provinces, which is valid until 10.30 p.m. today (May 7).

According to the warning, “Thunder showers accompanied by severe lightning are likely to occur at several places in Western, Central, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, North-western, Uva provinces, Ampara and Mannar Districts in the evening or night."

Fairly heavy falls above 75 mm are likely at some places in Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern and Uva provinces and in Kaluthara districts.

It furthered that, “There may be temporary localized strong windsduring thundershowers. General public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning activity.”
