Governors, Secretaries review nomalisation plans

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa yesterday (05) reviewed the plan that has been formulated to resume the civilian life and institutional operations in Colombo, Gampaha, Kalutara and Puttalam districts from Monday, May 11, along with Provincial Governors and Ministry Secretaries.

President Rajapaksa observed that the public and private sector institutions should resume their functions following the recommendations of the Health Ministry and the government strictly.

The President made these observations during a special meeting held with the Provincial Governors and Cabinet Ministry secretaries at the Presidential Secretariat. The President also instructed to forward the detailed plans of the resumption of institutional operations to the health authorities.

He emphasized the importance of following the proper health guidelines strictly in public transport services as well. He also pointed out the possibilities of company welfare organizations in providing transport to the staff members.

He also pointed out that the shifts could be determined on the structure of the institution and times of attendance should be determined by the institution itself.

The President instructed the Cabinet Ministry secretaries to accept e-mails and SMS as legal modes of getting information and responding to queries by those who work from home. During the meeting it was decided to seek the possibility of opening selected rural schools under the recommendation of Zonal Education Directors.

The development works in power, water, irrigation, and building construction has continued in other districts and in those four districts too development activities could commence thereafter, it was observed.

The President also instructed the authorities to pay attention to any possible rise in rat fever and dengue with the onset of the monsoon period in the midst of the Coronavirus epidemic.

Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 head Basil Rajapaksa, President's Secretary Dr P B Jayasundara, President's Chief Adviser Lalith Weeratunga and Prime Minister's Secretary Gamini Senarath also participated in the meeting.
