All quarantined persons re-tested before leaving

All who are now being quarantined in various quarantine centres in Sri Lanka will be tested for COVID-19 before they complete their 14 day quarantine period and leave, Consultant Physician attached to National Institute for Infectious Disease (NIID) Dr. Ananda Wijewickrama said.

According to Dr. Wijewickrama, this decision made during the Special Task Force meeting held on Monday. Accordingly the PCR test will be done for all who stay in quarantine centres before they leave home. The existing resources should be used carefully without wasting them for no reason. Testing should be increased with the increase of COVID-19 patients.

Dr. Wijewickrama said that the people now in Quarantine Centres will be released after completing the 14 days if their PCR test result becomes negative. Samples will also be tested from the society. Around 20 persons infected with COVID-19 had come to hospitals because they developed severe symptoms and were unable to stay home without seeking medical treatment. This is an indication for the increasing number of COVID-19 patients.

A cured patient is sent home only after his/her PCR test result become negative twice. There are some persons and groups who try to earn money during this hard time. Some persons had tried to get a letter from a cured patient with his signature stating that a certain drug cured his illness. The drug mafia is very active all the time in Sri Lanka, he added.
