Upon being notified by the Trincomalee Police, the Navy brought ashore a fisherman who was closely associated with a person infected with the new Coronavirus and had gone for fishing practices.

After being informed that a person who needs to be quarantined had closely associated with another person but was attempting to return ashore to Trincomalee secretly, after venturing to sea for fishing, a group of naval personnel attached to the Eastern Naval Command commenced an operation in search of the suspicious persons and the craft. Subsequently, the Navy managed to locate the person and the craft he was aboard along with two more suspicious ‍fishing vessels and 10 persons aboard those vessels. The Navy escorted all three vessels ashore early yesterday morning (29th March 2020).

Subsequently, naval medics in accordance with all protective guidelines, diagnosed if the persons had initial symptoms and their vessels too were disinfected by the Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) Unit of the Navy. Thereafter, all the returnees were handed over to the Trincomalee Police.
