Sri Lanka Police received nearly 300 complaints regarding the lost or stolen mobile phones through the ‘www.ineed.police.lk’ online platform in 2019 alone, Police IT Division Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Damayantha Hettiarachchi said.
Within the year, the police had received a total of 40,000 complaints in this regard and 29,000 of them have been solved with the support of the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL) and mobile service providers, he said.
The ASP requested the public to lodge any related complaint through this online system other than visiting the police stations as it could react faster.
The ‘www.ineed.police.lk’ digital platform was introduced to the Sri Lanka police by ASP Hettiarachchi in November 2018.
It is an online solution which facilitates the public to lodge a complaint with the police regarding their misplaced mobile phones with no physical visit to the police stations. Details of the relevant mobile phone are communicated to the mobile service providers through the TRCSL within a day. It also facilitates the public to see the progress of the inquiries being conducted into their complaints.With the introduction of this software, Sri Lanka police have been able to save nearly nine million rupees of government funds per annum.
This website won the first runner-up award in the government institutions and NGOs category under the Best Digital Enabled Product and Services at the ‘SLT Zero One Award Ceremony’ held in Colombo last Tuesday.
