Rathgama murder case: Suspects further remanded

Galle Chief Magistrate Harshana Kekunawela further remanded the seventeen suspects, including 15 Police officers and two officials of the Wildlife Conservation Department, until March 18 when they were produced before him yesterday.

The suspects remanded are SP Special Crime Investigation Unit former OIC IP Kapila Nishantha Silva, SI H.G.Viraj Madusanka, Constable H.G.Sanjaya Chanaka, Beat Officer K.Marshal Thushara Nalinda, CI E.A.Saman Rohana, SI Vidanage Thilakrathne, Constable Upul Ranjith, SI W.R.Wimalasiri, SI G.K.Wimalarathne, Sergeant P.H.Chaminda, Sergeant S.G.Premalal, Constable Y.P.Vidanagama, and Constable B.A.R.Asanka, Police Driver H.M.S.Jayarathna, Walasmulla Forest Ranger R.S.Suwaris, Constable Anil Kumara and Constable Ragamunige Wijitha Kumara.

They are charged with the abduction of two businessmen, Gonapinuwalage Asela Manjula Kumara and Kosma Rasik Chintaka of Rathnaudagama, Boossa, Rathgama on January 23, 2019, conspiring to murder and burn them and aiding to carry out the crime.

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) said that a wanted suspect in connection with the murder of the businessman had fled the area and still to be arrested. They also submitted that investigations into the case were still in progress. Attorneys Anura Senavirathhna and Dhasni Piyasiri appeared for the suspects. Sergeant Sumith (78667) prosecuted.
