Russian bio-pirates nabbed from Horton Plains remanded

Three Russians nabbed while trying to take away 550 animals belonging to 23 species and a large number of plant species caught and removed from the Horton Plains National Park were remanded till March 12 when they were produced before Nuwara Eliya Magistrate Pamoda Jayasekera yesterday (3).

The Magistrate also ordered Horton Plains National Park Warden P. M. P. K. Pradep Kumara to release all live animal species to the wild and send the animal species to the Museum for identification. He also ordered the park keeper to send the plant species to the Peradeniya Botanical Gardens.
