Eight persons under observation for COVID-19

Only eight people in Sri Lanka are under observation for COVID-19 by yesterday (Friday) and so far only one COVID-19 positive case, a female Chinese tourist has been detected in Sri Lanka, the Epidemiology sources said.

According to sources, the only case found positive for COVID-19 has been clinically cured and in good health. She will be discharged from hospital after the final medical report is received confirming her ‘COVID-19 free status’.

Four more persons are under observation at NIID. One person at Ragama TH, two persons at Kurunegala TH and one at Gampaha DGH.

The 33 students who were housed at the Diyathalawa Army Camp for a 14 day quarantine period were handed over to their families yesterday. They did not show any type of symptoms and were cleared from a possible COVID-19 infection.

“In the current Sri Lankan context, there is no scientific justification for the public to wear face masks. However, persons suffering from common flu or seasonal influenza can wear face masks in order to protect family members, co-workers and the public,” sources said.

Epidemiologists advise the public to wash hands frequently, avoid close contact with people suffering from the flu, avoid contact with live or dead animals, always cover the nose and mouth (with disposable tissue/cloth or cough to the bent elbow) while coughing or sneezing, avoid touching the mouth/nose/eyes unnecessarily and to avoid crowded places as much as possible.
