Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna(SLPP) Chairman Prof. G.L Peiris said that the SLPP was confident of obtaining a two thirds majority at the upcoming general election.
Addressing a press briefing at SLPP head office in Battaramulla yesterday Prof. G.L. Peiris said President Gotabaya Rajapaksa can dissolve Parliament by March 2 according to the Constitution.
He said it was feasible to go for a general election at the earliest in order to form a strong government that will give the fullest support to implement the President’s vision.
“Even though several measures were taken such as providing employment to youth and granting funds for development activities, it is hard to implement our main projects without a majority in Parliament. Thus, it is necessary to appoint a strong group of Parliamentarians who will put their heart and soul with the President’s mission,” he said.
Meanwhile, answering questions by journalists Prof. Peiris said that Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa will contest the General Election from the Kurunegala district.
