One Chinese woman tested positive

Ten including 7 foreigners monitored at IDH

A Chinese woman who came from Hubei Province in China was tested positive for Coronavirus, the Health Ministry confirmed yesterday.

According to Chief Epidemiologist of the Health Ministry Dr.Sudath Samaraweera, this is the the first Coronavirus case detected in Sri Lanka. According to Ministry sources, this Chinese national in question was admitted to the Infectious Diseases Hospital(IDH) several days ago and was receiving treatment at the Hospital.

Meanwhile, a Health Ministry spokesman states that the National Action Committee appointed under the direction of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to prevent the spread of Coronavirus in Sri Lanka met late last evening.

According to the spokesman, the Committee will discuss future measures and security measures to be implemented to prevent the spread of coronavirus in Sri Lanka. Meanwhile, the Health Ministry has instructed the public to adhere to standard health measures needed for the prevention and control of respiratory infections. They are to avoid crowded places, frequent washing of hands with soap and water or alcohol based hand rubs, covering mouth when coughing and sneezing, covering mouth and nose with flexed elbow or tissues, discarding tissues safely and avoiding close contact with anyone who is having fever and cough.

If anyone suffers from fever and cough, and had travelled to a city from where novel coronavirus cases are reported, he/she should seek prompt medical advice and share the travel history with the doctor who treats him/her.
