Four patients at IDH under observation

The samples collected from suspected Coronavirus infected persons may be sent overseas for further testing if required, Medical Research Institute (MRI) Director Dr. Jayaruwan Bandara said.

Chief Epidemiologist Dr.Sudath Samaraweera said four patients who had been admitted to the Infectious Diseases Hospital (IDH) on suspicion of possible Coronavirus infection had been kept under observation although they were recovering and the initial reports were negative.

According to Dr. Samaraweera, the four patients did not show severe symptoms but were being monitored. Medical tests have been conducted on them.

“They were admitted as a precautionary measure as they had returned from Wuhan,” he said.

“They are recovering but we cannot exactly say that they are not infected by the Coronavirus until the reports indicate conclusively. Samples have been sent to the MRI and reports would be received within two days,” he added.
