Ranjan’s phone recordings not tabled in Parliament - Deputy Speaker

Deputy Speaker of Parliament Ananda Kumarasiri yesterday announced that United National Party (UNP) Parliamentarian Ranjan Ramanayake has not tabled any recordings of his phone conversations in Parliament as of yet.

He made this observation making the Speaker’s announcements at the commencement of the sittings.

The Deputy Speaker stated that although many media had reported that MP Ramanayake had tabled many of his telephone conversations and voice recordings in the House of Parliament they were incorrect as he neither had handed over any such in the House of Parliament nor to the Secretary General of the Parliament.

He further said that on Tuesday (21), MP Ranjan Ramanayake, issuing a statement in Parliament on the matter of leaked phone recordings, stated that he would table the recordings in Parliament, but MP Ramanayake had not done so. During the speech Ramanayake went on to say that he had many telephone conversations with a number of senior persons and that he was tabling them at the same moment.

In the meantime, MP Harsha de Silva on Tuesday (22) stated that Ramanayake had handed over 15,000 phone recordings to Parliament and the media had reported it.
