EU EOM presents final report on SL polls

European Union Election Observation Mission (EU EOM) today, presenting its final report on the ‘Presidential Election 2019’, recommended enacting legislation to empower the Election Commission.

EU EOM Chief Observer to Sri Lanka Marisa Matias, speaking at a press conference in Colombo along with her Deputy Dimitra Joannou and Press Officer Paul Anderson, highlighted six priority recommendations for future elections.

“Enact legislation to strengthen capacity and procedures in line with the Election Commission’s constitutional mandate. The law should empower the EC to issue, in a timely manner, binding regulatory instruments with clear provisions for enforcement, and to develop and codify internal procedures,” she said.
