Two killed in Aluthgama level crossing

A motorcyclist and the pillion rider were killed when they tried to cross an unprotected level crossing in Aluthgama yesterday evening.

The motorcycle had tried to cross the level crossing near Poorwarama Temple near the Aluthgama Railway Station in a hurry. Residents told the media that the motorcyclist was being chased by ‘unknown person or persons’ and it made them to cross in a hurry resulting in them being run over by the train. Aluthgama Police are carrying out investigations regarding this motorcycle which sped away in a state of panic. Residents launched a protest that delayed train movements for nearly two hours.

Police dispersed protesters around 7 pm.The victims were residents of Aluthgama.
