Urgent moves by Education Ministry to fill School Principal vacancies: Dullas

The Education Ministry is to take steps to fill 50 percent of the Principal vacancies at national schools within the first school term, this year. The balance vacancies will be filled within the second school term, Education & Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Dullas Alahapperuma told the Daily News.

A survey conducted by the Education Ministry has revealed that there have been Principal vacancies at 278 national schools for the past 9 years, the minister said, adding that his ministry would sort out this problem within the next 5 months to strengthen the national school network.

Meanwhile, the Education Ministry, in a media statement, said a person appointed to the post of a National School Principal would be either a Grade I, Grade II or Grade III Officer of the Sri Lanka Education Administrative Service, or a Grade I Officer of the Sri Lanka Principal Service.

Interviews for filling Principal vacancies at national schools were held for Grade I Officers of the Sri Lanka Principal Service from December 23 to 28, last year, at the ministry. The results have been forwarded to the Education Services Committee of the Public Service Commission for further action.

Interviews for Grade II and Grade III Officers of the Sri Lanka Education Administrative Service was held from January 9 to 13, and interviews among Grade I officers of the Education Administrative Service will be held on January 24 and 26.
