NASTICA to spur local innovations to meet global standards

Cabinet approval has been granted to prepare the draft act for converting the Coordinating Secretariat for Science, Technology and Innovation (COSTI) into the National Scientific Technology and Innovation Coordination Authority (NASTICA), Co-Cabinet Media Spokesman and Information and Communications Technology, Higher Education, Technology and Innovations Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardana said.

Addressing the weekly Cabinet media briefing held yesterday at the Government Information Department, Minister Gunawardana said that approval had been granted earlier by the Cabinet of Ministers to convert COSTI into the National Scientific Technology and Innovation Coordination Authority (NASTICA) by a parliamentary act and the Legal Draftsman’s Department is working on the draft act.

The Cabinet proposal was submitted by Minister Bandula Gunawardana. The draft act will include the duties and responsibilities of Sri Lanka Inventors Commission (SLIC) with the objective of realising the vision of converting Sri Lanka to a centre for inventions of international standards, adhering to the government’s policy document ‘Vistas of Prosperity and Splendour’.
