New bridges over Hurulu Ela, Etabula Oya in Matale

The foundation stone was laid to construct a bridge over the Hurulu Ela, connecting Kalogahaela, Deganthuduwawatta and Gameyaya villages by Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils and Local Government Minister Janaka Bandara Tennakoon.

It is one of the rural infrastructure development projects that has been launched by the Government in the Matale District to promote the living standard of rural dwellers.

As the first step of the programme, construction work on the Hurulu Ela bridge was initiated in

the Dambulla Divisional Secretariat area recently by Minister Tennakoon. Under this programme, two bridges will be constructed at a cost of Rs. 90 million. Accordingly, one bridge will be constructed over the Hurulu Ela which is fed by Mahaweli waters, connecting Kalogahaela, Deganthuduwawatta, Gameyaya villages while another bridge will be set up over Etabula Oya, connecting Kalundeva and Agunakolapellessa areas.

In parallel, the access roads in these villages are to be renovated to provide people with a comfortable travelling experience. For this purpose, Rs. one million has been allocated. Accordingly, construction work of the bridges will be completed soon.

This programme will benefit over 1,000 families in these villages.
