Seven TV channels ordered to hand over video clips of Rajith’s statement

The Colombo Chief Magistrate Lanka Jayarathne issued an order on December 5 directing seven television channels to handover unedited video clips of the statement made by Parliamentarian Rajitha Senarathne on December 2 on the abduction and released of Swiss embassy officer.

The Magistrate made the order pursuant to the request by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

Filing a motion before court, the CID told court that Dr.Rajitha Senarathne had made a statement on December 2 on the investigation into the abduction and release of the Swiss embassy officer.

CID also stated that they have initiated an investigation regarding the statement by Dr.Senarathne.

Court was told further that the CID would obtain statement from Dr.Rajitha Senarathne on the matter. Replying to a question raised by the Magistrate, CID stated that they have pasted notices on victim Garnier Bariester Francis's house and her office.

Court was told that the embassy officer had not appeared at the CID yet to give her statement on the incident.

"MP Rajitha Senarathne had stated that victim Garnier Bariester Francis had not yet given any statement on the incident," CID stated.
