The Centre for Monitoring Election Violence (CMEV) has received a complaint regarding a petrol bomb attack in the Millawa Estate in Gampola electorate and threatening the residents ahead of today’s election.
CMEV National Coordinator Manjula Gajanayake said the mob had arrived in a jeep with covered number plates had pelted a petrol bomb at a house and had attempted to pelt one more at another house.
He said the incident was informed to the Kandy Deputy Election Commissioner and the police after receiving confirmed details from the CMEV observers.He also said this area had been identified as a vulnerable area of violent activities in the pre-election period.
No one sustained injuries due to the attack and Gajanayake believed that the attack was aimed at scaring voters in the area.
