New Democratic Front (NDF) Presidential candidate Minister Sajith Premadasa yesterday promised the people of Puttalam that he would ensure the Aruwakkalu Waste Management Project will not affect the people in the area in an adverse manner.
The Aruwakkalu Waste Management Project was launched following the collapse of the Meethotamulla disposal site in 2017 as a sustainable solution to the solid waste disposal problem faced by many local government authorities in the country. However, there have been a number of protests by the people in the Puttalam area over the project citing mainly environmental issues, the NDF presidential candidate noted, addressing an election rally in Anamaduwa in the Puttalam district yesterday.
He said that when he is elected he would take whatever measures needed to solve the issues faced by the people due to the project.
The NDF Presidential candidate also said he will take measures to build a new expressway to Anuradhapura which runs through Puttalam and a new rail track from Mahawa to the area where St.Anne’s church is located in Puttalam. Premadasa said that after he is elected he will take necessary measures to assist all victims of political reprisals.
To the applause of the massive gathering, Premadasa said after the 16th of this month when he is elected as the head of the country a new era would dawn where all people irrespective of differences would be able to reap the dividends of development.
