Ample fertilizer for Maha season

Agriculture Minister P. Harrison said that he has instructed State fertilizer companies to take necessary measures to import the total amount for fertilizer required for the Maha season by the end of this month. The Minister further said that a ship carrying 30,000 metric tons of Urea fertilizer is scheduled to arrive at Colombo Port on September 26.

“As it was estimated by the Ministry, 229,526 metric tons of fertilizer is required for this Maha season and 787,259 hectares of land is expected to be sown with rice in this Maha serason.” said the Minister.

According to the Minister, already 148,162.9 metric tons of Urea, 36,530 metric tons of Triple Super Phosphate and 44,833 metric tons of MOP have been imported for paddy cultivation in Maha season.

The Minister assured that there won’t be any disruption in the supply of fertilizer to the farmers like we experienced in previous cultivation seasons and measures have been taken to provide high quality fertilizer imported from Russia, Vietnam and China.
