Showers to continue till September 17: Met Dept

The prevailing showers are expected to continue until September 17, Meteorology Department Duty Meteorologist Kasun Pasquel told the Daily News yesterday.

The Duty Meteorologist said they expected thundershowers as the country was currently experiencing the latter part of the Southwest monsoonal rains.

“The situation would change with the arrival of second inter-monsoonal season,” he said.

He said that showers or thundershowers could occur in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, and Northwestern provinces; as well as the Galle, Matara, and Jaffna districts.

Heavy falls of about 100mm were also likely at some places in these areas.

A temporary drop in rainfall could be expected only today.

The department has requested the public to take precautions against strong winds and lightning.
