A jeep driver died of his injuries and a passenger was seriously injured after been shot at by two unidentified gunmen in Jambugasmulla, in Kohuwela area in the early hours of yesterday.
According to the Police Media Spokesperson’s Office, the incident in which the gunmen had opened fire on the jeep, had taken place at around 1:10 a.m. yesterday in Jambugasmulla in the Kohuwala Police Division. The driver of the jeep succumbed on admission to the Kalubowila Government Teaching Hospital while a second person who was seated in the front seat next to the driver suffered injuries and was admitted to hospital.
The dead person was identified as Ranawaka Susil Ruwan Perera (38), a resident of Madiwela Road, Udahamulla.
The other person who sustained injuries in the shooting is receiving treatment at the Colombo National Hospital. He is identified as Adikari Mudiyanselage Indika Roshan (40) from Kanaththa Road, Thalapathpitiya. Kohuwala Police is investigating.
