Motorcyclist fined Rs. 180,000

Panadura Chief Magistrate Amila Ariyasena imposed an unprecedented fine totalling Rs.180,000 on a motorcyclist who pleaded guilty for committing multiple traffic offences.

The accused Nalaka Wasantha Perera of Bolgoda was charged by the Panadura South Traffic Police for riding his motorcycle on the Horana road in a reckless and negligent manner with no helmet under the influence of liquor, without possessing a driving licence, a revenue licence and the insurance certificate and also injuring a pedestrian.

The accused was produced before Court by Sergeants Jayasinghe and Perera of the Panadura South Police Traffic Branch on Tuesday.

Police sergeants told Court that the accused motorcyclist was charged under the amended traffic Laws operating in the country.
