Colombo NTJ leader granted bail

The Colombo District organiser of the National Thowheed Jammath (NTJ) organisation Mohammed Farouk Mohamed Fawaz, who was arrested following the Easter Sunday terror attacks on April 21, was granted bail by Colombo Chief Magistrate Lanka Jayarathne.

He was released on two sureties of Rs.500,000 for each.

The Magistrate also imposed a travel ban on the suspect.

The Magistrate delivered this order after taking into consideration a letter by the Attorney General’s Department.

The Magistrate further observed that the Attorney General mentioned in his letter that there is no objection to release the suspect on bail.

The suspect was identified as Mohomed Farook Mohomed Fawaz,(38), a resident of Sooriyamahal Housing Scheme, Prince Gate in Hulftsdorp. The Police had seized 67 stickers of the National Thawheed Jamaath (NTJ), pen drives and mobile phones during the arrest.

They were found hidden in a room of the house during a joint search operation conducted by the Army and Police. The Magistrate fixed further inquiries for September 24.
