Panadura North OIC interdicted over missing T56 rifles

The Acting IGP has interdicted the Officer-In-Charge (OIC) of the Panadura North Police Station IP Prabath Paranawithana with the covering approval of the National Police Commission over the misplacement of two T-56 assault rifles which had gone missing from his police station.

Police Spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekara said that the OIC had been interdicted based on the revelations of the preliminary investigations.

An investigation was launched on July 6 under the directions of the Western Province DIG after two firearms went missing from the Panadura North Police Station. Speaking to the Daily News, SP Ruwan Gunasekara said earlier that the weapons were issued to Police officers during a parade that was held.

However, he said when the weapons were returned and upon inspection, it was discovered that two of the rifles had been misplaced. So far the weapons have not been found.
