Dialog Axiata PLC, Sri Lanka’s premier connectivity provider, has pledged its support to HelpAge Sri Lanka (HASL) to carry out its on-going Free Cataract Surgery program via their loyalty program-Star Points, Sri Lanka’s first and largest mobile based loyalty scheme.
Each Star Point which is worth LKR 1, will be utilized by HelpAge to perform free Cataract Surgeries for less privileged senior citizens in the country.
Accordingly, Dialog subscribers may simply dial #141#*5*2 to donate their Star Points to HelpAge before June 30, 2019 (Sunday), in support of this valuable Cataract Surgery program.
Surgeries are performed at HelpAge Eye Hospital, Sinsapa Road, Wellawatta. The Hospital is open on all five days of the week for low-income elders over the age of 55. In addition, the donations collected via Star Points, would also be utilized to conduct free mobile medical eye camps throughout the country, especially in rural and remote areas to serve those in need of medical assistance.
Speaking to the Daily News Business, Dialog Axiata PLC, Group Business Development, New Business Development, Manager Chandana Paththinige said since the company’s vision is to empower and enrich Sri Lankan lives and enterprises, Dialog is proud to assist HelpAge in their endeavor to assist this under served segment in our society.
He said this follows Dialog’s continued support of the country’s elderly community, with the launch of the Dialog Prashansa package, an exclusive mobile and device bundle for retired state sector employees. HASL Executive Director, Samantha Liyanawaduge, said HelpAge entered into partnership with Dialog Axiata’s Star Points program in December 2011 and has received annual donations to this worthy cause over Rs. six million in donations via Star Points since its inception. Referring to statistics, he added that less privileged Senior Citizens are the most at-risk group for cataracts, however, due to an information gap regarding eye health, poor access to effective healthcare and the inability to afford the care they need, many go without being diagnosed, leading to eventual complications.
“Therefore, we see this program is highly essential for this segment and we also conduct over 25 mobile medical and eye clinics every month islandwide to serve beneficiaries with medical screening and eye screening services.
