‘Resignation of Muslim Ministers just an eyewash’

The resignation of Muslim Ministers from their portfolios was just an eyewash and tactic to avert the No-Confidence Motion against Rishard Bathuideen, Opposition MPs charged.

Anuradhapura District UPFA MP Shehan Semasinghe said, “The Muslim ministers resigned in order to save the government. Today, two of them took oaths again and regained their posts. Now their drama is very clear. When they resigned we said that it was a gimmick. That resignation was prompted by a racist decision. It was a show and now their ploy is clear. We have heard that all other Muslim ministers will regain their portfolios within the next few days, except Bathuideen.”

He called upon the government to stop these dramas. “The Muslim ministers resigned stating that they stepped down to support the investigations on the allegations against them that they maintained links with the IS. They said they would wait for a month. Now the investigations are still in progress and the stipulated time of one month is also not over. Who are they trying to fool?”
