SLFP, SLPP hold another round of talks

The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) and the Sri Lanka Podujana Permana (SLPP) representatives held a another round of talks in Colombo. Both parties said that they succeeded in reaching agreements regarding many issues.

They also said that there were many areas in which both parties should make more deliberations.

Addressing the media Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna Chairman Prof. G.L.Peris yesterday said the SLFP and SLPP agreed on 20 key policy matters.

He said that these matters should be further discussed at the SLPP Central Committee and other parties in the Joint Opposition.

Prof. Peris added that the two parties have not discussed the forming of a broader alliance.

He said that the two parties have to discuss at length the formation of a broader alliance at length. “We have to discuss the structure and the conditions of a broader alliance in depth before forming an alliance,” he said.

Meanwhile, SLFP General Secretary and Parliamentarian Dayasiri Jayaskeera said that the both parties agreed to hold the next round of talks on May 9.

He said that they will apprise the progress of the talks to President Maithripala Sirisena and Opposition Leader and former President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

“We will keep them informed about the progress of discussionS. we will discuss with party leaders to launch a campaign against the UNP government,” Jayasekera said
