Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has issued directives to the authorities concerned to put in place a mechanism to eradicate Fall Army Worm menace in the country.
The Prime Minister has also directed the Finance and Media Minister to allocate the necessary funds for the implementation of this mechanism.
He has issued these directives at a meeting with UNP Parliamentary Group meeting at Temple Trees yesterday.
The UNP Parliamentary Group has also decided to fight this menace as a national disaster.
It has been estimated that Maize cultivation in extent of above 40,000 acres were badly damaged due to this menace and the country has been deprived of 20 per cent of its annual harvest.
