One killed, several critical in van mishap

One person succumbed and several others were critically injured after a van fell from a cliff and toppled over a tributary in Kumbukkan Oya on Thursday.

The occupants had been returning after a passing out ceremony of Special Task Force officers in Katukurunda Police School as invitees. Six males three females were admitted to the Lunugala Hospital where one had succumbed soon after admission.The van had sunk in the river and were rescued by area residents.

The victim Abeysinghe Mudiyanselage Samarakoon Banda (48) was a resident in Janathapura in Lunugala.
