Cabinet approves Ruwanpura Expressway Project

Cabinet has approved a proposal made by the Higher Education and Highways Ministry, to call for technical and financial proposals for the first phase of the Ruwanpura Expressway Project.

Accordingly, technical and financial proposals of the Kahatuduwa - Ingiriya section of the Ruwanpura Expressway would be invited by the China National Technical Import and Export Corporation.

The Ruwanpura Expressway is 73.9 km from the Kahatuduwa interchange to Palmadulla. Under the recommendations of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Management, the Ruwanpura Expressway Project has been divided in to four sections, depending on the nature of works involved and specific places on the trace of the Expressway. ​The ​Kahatuduwa - Ingiriya section would be 26.3 km in length, and would be handled by the China National Technical Import and Export Corporation (CNTIC).

Ingiriya - Kahengama section would be 21 km in length, and would be handled by the China National Aero Technology International Engineering Corporation (CATIC-ENG).

Kahengama - Bela section would be 12.7 km in length, and would be handled by the Hunan Construction Engineering Group Corporation (HCEGC).

Bela - Palmadulla section would be 13.9 km in length, and would be handled by the China Harbour Engineering Company Ltd (CHEC).

The Higher Education and Highways Ministry expects to complete the project within a period of three years.
