The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) yesterday appointed a committee comprising senior lawyers to study the COPE report on the Central Bank bond issue, reliable sources told the Daily News.

Sources said that this committee will make recommendations to the party on how it could help a future course of action against those responsible for this scam.

The Central Committee arrived at this decision after a majority of members were of the view that a financial irregularity has allegedly had taken place in the treasury bond issue.

The COPE made several recommendations to Parliament on last year’s controversial bond issue.

Sources said that a group of Central Committee members were of the view that this report needs to be referred to the Attorney General’s Department for necessary action while others were of the view that action could be filed against those who were allegedly involved in this bond scam based on the COPE report. He said that the Central Committee members also discussed the membership drive and various other programmes to attract more members to the party at the Central Committee meeting.
