Fire in marsh

A fire broke out at a marsh at Muthurajawela in Wattala. Fire fighters doused the fire with the help of Army personnel, the police said.

The cause for the fire is yet to be ascertained. No one was injured. Wattala Police are investigating.

Two caught with heroin

The Police Narcotic Bureau (PNB) on a tip-off arrested a man with heroin at Matha road in Narahenpita. They have detected 2.8 grams of heroin in the suspect's possession.

He was identified as a 42-year-old resident of Narahenpita.

He was to be produced before the Maligakanda Magistrate. Meanwhile, another suspect was arrested by the Matara Divisional Anti-Corruption Unit for allegedly keeping heroin at Mirissa in Weligama.

The Police found 1.47 grams of heroin in the suspect's possession. He was identified as a 23-year-old resident of Mirissa.

The suspect was to be produced before the Matara Magistrate.

Weligama Police are investigating.

Seven nabbed for dumping garbage into river

At least seven persons, including four females, have been arrested by the Police Naval Division on charges of dumping garbage into the Kelani river from Peliyagoda and

Wattala.

These suspects were arrested while using the vessels of the Police Naval Division, Police said. They were released on police bail and to be produced before Courts.

Police Naval Division is investigating.
