Sexual offender arrested after 31 years

A 57-year-old man evading arrest after being tried in absence in a higher court and sentenced to 16 years’ rigorous imprisonment in 2005 over a case of sexual abuse committed 20 years ago, was arrested by Akuressa Police at Maramba while he was traveling in a bus to Akuressa on Sunday.

Police made the arrest following a tip-off given by a member of the public. He was due to be produced before the Matale Magistrate.
