Trinity College signs MoU to admit Kuliyapitiya child

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) had been signed between Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam and Principal of the Trinity College, Kandy Andrew Fowler-Watt  today(09) to grant admission to the six-year-oldchild in Kuliyapitiya, who was deprived of a school due to false rumor.

The six-year-old boy was deprived of his right to education following a rumor which claimed to say that his father had allegedly been infected with HIV.

The protest lead by parents of other children in a school in Kuliyapitiya resulted in the child being denied a school in Kuliyapitiya.

The child’s mother faced a great difficulty in finding a school from the area even after the health officers confirmed that the child was not affected with HIV.

However initiatives were taken by several schools, both from Colombo and outstations, to grant admission to the child, with Trinity College, Kandy being the first to do so.
