President opens ‘Maithri Sevana’ Holiday Resort

President Maithripala Sirisena unveils the plaque to open the Maithri Sevana

Maithri Sevena, the three-storied holiday resort, built to provide accommodation to the tourists visiting historic Polonnaruwa was opened by President Maithripala Sirisena on Saturday.

The holiday resort, which was built by Polonnaruwa Buddhist Association, is equipped with all facilities. It also has a room which can accommodate 500 people at a time. Polonnaruwa Guest House of the Public Administration Ministry which was built adjacent to the Maithri Sevena, was also opened by the President. This is a two-storied building with all facilities for tourists.

President Sirisena after the opening also made an observation tour.

The President, symbolising the offering of 125 scholarships to recipients of ‘Lakdaru Scholarships’ which is offered for the children of low income families in Polonnaruwa District, presented the letters of scholarships to 10 children.

Water tanks for rural volunteer organisations in the Polonnaruwa District were also offered at the occasion. President Sirisena also presented roofing sheets to 100 families in the district who are living in thatched houses.

Public Administration and Management Minister Ranjith Maddumabandara, North Central Province Chief Minister Peshala Jayarathne, Deputy Minister Lakshman Wasantha Perera, Member of Parliament Nalaka Kolonne and the Ministry Secretary also participated.
