Police yesterday found a luxury vehicle belonging to the Presidential Secretariat abandoned at Jalthara in Homagama yesterday.
The police had received the information of an abandoned vehicle by way of a call received to the Police Emergency Unit.
The Police investigating into the missing luxury vehicles at the Presidential Secretariat found several vehicles abandoned in many areas soon after the last presidential election.
The investigators found 53 vehicles belonging to the Presidential Secretariat left abandoned at a yard in Colombo, last February. The Criminal Investigation Department arrested the former Transport Director of the Presidential Secretariat Keerthi Samarasinghe who is allegedly held accountable for the missing vehicles. A number of officials including Former Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga was questioned over this issue. Former External Affairs Ministry Monitoring MP Sajin De Vass Gunawardena who was remanded on the charge of misusing vehicles of the presidential secretariat was released on strict bail conditions after a period of four months in remand custody, on Wednesday
