Helping hand for low income families
Concurrent to the Social Integration Week from July 15 to 21 launched by the National Languages and Social Integration Ministry, a series of programmes for the provision of legal aid to low income families in Galle district were initiated by the Galle District Secretariat.
The project implemented following instructions from Galle District Secretary Ravindra Hewavitharane covered the Bentota, Welivitiya-divitura, Nagoda and Yakkalamulla Divisional Secretariat areas.
Parallel to the above project, two Grade Five Scholarship educational seminars for students of low income families at Nagoda Royal College and Ethkandura Seevali Maha Vidyalaya in Nagoda and Welivitiya - Divitura Divisional Secretariat areas were held.
A special school development project was also held at Upper Homadola Junior School in Nagoda, Galle. A public seminar on basic law for selected 150 low income families conducted by the Legal Aid Commission was held at the Yakkalamulla Divisional Secretariat.
A cricket tournament with the participation of all communities was held at Yakkalamulla to mark the conclusion of programme, the organisers said.
