The High Court Trial-at-Bar hearing the murder of Polonnaruwa District MP Amarakeerthi Athukorala and his bodyguard is scheduled to inspect the place where the murder had taken place today in order to get a clear understanding of the nature of the crime, the witnesses and the evidence.
The CID has been instructed to take steps to provide security and facilities for the purpose.The panel of judges decided to inspect the crime scene on the request of Deputy Solicitor General Janaka Prasanna Bandara,who is leading the prosecution in the case.
A discussion on logistics was held yesterday (6) at the CID.
This case is being heard before the panel of judges consisting of High Court Judges Sahan Mapa Bandara (Chairman), Rashmi Singappuli and A.D.Ruwan Pathirana. Chief Inspector A.A.D. Collure testified at the beginning of the trial last Friday and the Deputy Solicitor General suggested that it is appropriate to conduct an on site inspection to get a clear understanding of the crime scene that Collure revealed.
A clothing store in Nittambuwa and its surrounding area will be examined by the panel of judges.The panel of judges has informed the lawyers of the prosecution and the defence to participate in this site inspection.
