‘Election: Opportunity to tell the world truth’

The forthcoming Provincial Council Election offers people a fine opportunity to give a message to the world at a time when certain international forces are trying to drive the country towards a crisis, said Power and Energy Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi.

She said the people should rally around the government to defeat forces friendly towards LTTE terrorists.

The minister said this addressing several meetings after commissioning the Bogahayaya, Tibbotuwawa, Katugampolagama, Heeralugama and Walathwewa rural electricity schemes in the Galgamuwa electorate recently.

Wanniarachchi said if not for the strong leadership given by President Mahinda Rajapaksa, the people would have been still lingering on the throes of death at the hands of cruel LTTE terrorists.

She said the President has stabilized the people’s right to live as proud Sri Lankans. The strong bond between the President and the masses could never be breached by any sinister external forces, including the LTTE diaspora. The country is facing a grave threat today. The best answer the people could help overcome that challenge and give the knock out blow to all sinister international and local forces trying to undermine the country’s progress is to vote for the betel leaf symbol and ensure a convincing victory to the UPFA with over 90 percent of the votes at the forthcoming election.

Minister Wanniarachchi said the government has brought electricity to the rural sector. It was after 2005, rural roads were developed and carpeted. The country is marching towards unprecedented development under the tenure of the present government. At this rate, the country would reach the zenith of unbelievable development within the next 10 years, she said.

Parliamentarians Tharanath Basnayake, Former Minister Bandula Basnayake and Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council chairman Kanchana Jayaratne were also present.
