The National budget 2014 has made an allocation of Rs. 225 million to the Economic Development Ministry for rural development projects in the Kesbewa electorate. These allocations are to be utilized for Maga neguma, Gama neguma, one project for one village, and Ran aruna development programmes of the electorate. Former President Abdul Gayoom of the Maldives and Nasrena Gayoom who arrived in Sri Lanka yesterday were welcomed at the BIA Airport, Katunayake by External Affairs Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris. Former President Gayoom is the Guest of Honour at the Commonwealth event to be hosted next week by President Mahinda Rajapaksa in his capacity as Chair-in-Office of the Commonwealth.
