Free computer courses for children

The eighth computer laboratory for children of those who had gone for foreign employment, was opened in the Haliela Pradeshiya Sabha premises.

The laboratory consists of 10 computers and internet facilities.

The eight laboratories that provide a free course for children of those who are employed abroad and those set to travel abroad for employment, were set up under the directions of the Foreign Employment Promotion and Welfare Minister Dilan Perera. The project is a joint venture of the Foreign Employment Bureau and the Microsoft Institute aiming to enhance computer literacy of children.

According to an agreement between the two institutions, the laboratories were set up at the Foreign Employment Bureau District Training Centres across the country.

Seven laboratories are set up in Tangalle, Matara, Badulla, Anuradhapura, Kandy, Ratnapura and Dambulla.

Around 15,000 children have followed free computer courses from these computer laboratories.
