Child involved in Paada Yatra: NCPA commences investigations

The National Child Protection Authority (NCPA) has commenced investigations into an incident where a child was involved in the Paada Yathra organised by the Joint Opposition (JO) from Kandy to Colombo on Monday.

According to a NCPA official this investigation has been initiated on a complaint received by the authority on Tuesday.

He said members of the foundation to Protect the Rights of the People made the complaint over the alleged involvement of an under aged person in political activities.

“We have already started investigations into this complaint,”she said. Meanwhile, the Women’s and Child Affairs Ministry in a statement yesterday condemned the involvement of an underaged child to achieve the political goals of a certain group.

The Ministry confirmed that the alleged abusing of a child by politicians during the Paada Yathra is currently being investigated by the National Child Protection Authority.

“Womens and Child Affairs Minister Chandrani Bandara has issued directives to the National Child Protection Authority to take stern legal action against those allegedly responsible for making a child participate in political activities. “The good governance government is committed to ensuring the development and well- being of children,” the NCPA official said.
