All monetary transactions carried out by the former President, his family members, etc. through the driver of Gamini Senarath, had now been revealed, Health Minister and Cabinet Co-Spokesman Dr. Rajitha Senaratne said.

“A sum of Rs. 12,670 million was withdrawn from an account in a Colombo bank on January 7, which is a violation of bank rules and regulations. They will experience the repercussions for their acts of corruption by next week,” Senaratne said.

Addressing the weekly Cabinet press briefing at the Government Information Department Auditorium in Colombo yesterday, he said the money was taken to the upper floor of a house at Rosemead Place in Colombo.

Bribes were offered to block investigations, to make sure that files disappear, to reduce the amount of money from Rs. 12,670 million to Rs. 500,000 and to make a statement claiming that the complaints were made due to pressure put on him. He had also revealed an alleged plot to kill him and some other close associates of the Rajapaksa family.

According to Minister Senaratne, Basil Rajapaksa’s architect and an astrologer of the Rajapaksa family, had also revealed details of some suspicious transactions and hidden properties. “Basil Rajapaksa’s sister’s husband had said that his wife had never visited Sri Lanka or sign documents, although her signature had been used on documents. Two court cases are currenly underway in this regard. They still spend the money they had snatched from the State and the people,”he said. Western Province Development Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka, addressing the same press conference, said all accounts revealed by the Panama Papers are not illegal. “The details of such accounts are with the government and relevant local financial institutions,” he said.
