Former LTTE leader Praba arrested

Former LTTE leader Krishnapillai Kalainesan alias Praba was arrested by the TID in Eravur, Batticaloa last morning.

This is the third high profile arrest by the TID during the past weeks.

TID officers arrested Ram on April 24 at Thambiluvil, Thirukkovil in the Ampara district. Ram led the attacks on Mullaithivu and Elephant Pass Army Bases. He was the Eastern Province Commander after Karuna Amman split from the LTTE.

Together with Karuna Amman, he is believed to be a party to the assassination of 600 surrendered Police officers in the Eastern Province in 1990.

He was arrested in 2009 and initially held at the Giritale Army camp. He escaped and hid at the Minneriya jungle. He was arrested on November 9, 2009 during an operation launched by over 3,000 military personnel. He was in military custody until 2013.

Former LTTE Commander of the Charles Anthony Brigade Nagulan Nagulan was arrested several days after Ram.

In the last phase of the war, Nagulan who was a close confidante of Prabhakaran escaped to Batticaloa from Wanni with a team of 60 cadres. He was arrested later and held under military intelligence for four years.

Both Ram and Nagulan are not rehabilitated, sources said.
