Rakna Lanka to reduce maritime security charges to meet competition

A special committee has been appointed to revise the charges levied by Rakna Lanka Ltd. for the provision of maritime security services to shipping lines, Rakna Lanka Chairman Victor Samaraweera said.

He said India, Singapore and China levied much lower rates than Sri Lanka for the provision of maritime security and that Sri Lanka was likely to lose business unless they lowered their charges to meet the competition.

Any loss in this business will lead to sizable reduction in foreign exchange earnings, he said.

Members of the committee include an Additional Secretary to the Defense Ministry, a representative of the Sri Lanka Navy, the General Manager of Rakna Lanka Ltd. and several others.
