High powered explosives found in Chavakachcheri house, one arrested

 

Police arrested a person who was fleeing from his house in Marawanpullaw in Chavakachcheri after they found a stock of high powered explosives in the house yesterday morning.

According to Police, they found a suicide kit, four claymore mines, three parcels of C4 explosives and ammunition weighing 12 kilos in the house in Vallakulam, Chavakachcheri during a search operation conducted yesterday morning. A team from the Intelligence Unit inspected the location down Vallakulam Pillaiyar Kovil Street after the Jaffna Division SSP received information regarding the explosives.

Police said that around 100 9 mm ammunition and two packs of claymore batteries were also recovered from the house.

The owner of the house had fled the area and he was arrested following a search operation conducted by the Special Task Force (STF).

Police suspect that the explosives had been hidden during the conflict period and police are carrying out further investigations to ascertain more details.
