Law Commission to present draft bill for PTA amendment

The Sri Lanka Law Commission has formulated an amendment bill for the Prevention of Terrorism Act in a manner suitable to the country's present needs, without causing impediment to ongoing police investigations and while ensuing human rights considerations are met, Naveen Marapana, a commissioner attached to the department said yesterday, He said the draft bill would be handed over to Justice Minister Dr. Wijeydasa Rajapakshe by the Chairman of the Law Commission Romesh de Silva PC this week. Copies of the Amendment Bill would be also handed over to the Foreign Affairs Minsister Mangala Samaraweera and Law and Order and Southern Provincial Minister Sagala Ratnayaka, he said.

He stated further that existing international laws and regulations with special conventions to Asian countries and recommendations made by the Attorney General and the Sri Lanka Bar Association had been taken into account in drafting the Amendment Bill.
